General Assembly 2024
June 5 - June 7
Management Meeting / General Assembly 2024
For the 23rd general assembly, the 32 members of the Network of European Royal Residences will meet in Italy! They will be hosted by the Royal Palace of Milan and the Royal Palace of Monza.
In addition to the work of the assembly, the program of this year GA aims to highlight the unitary system of the Royal Palace of Milan and the Royal Palace of Monza (its summer residence). Participants of the GA will have the exceptional opportunity to relive the Royal Family’s summer itinerary, travelling to Monza by the original railway system. The circuit, today closed to the public, includes the Station Royal Pavilions both in the Central Station in Milan and in Monza, which today represent important historical-artistic testimonies highlighting the complexity of the original organisation of the two residences.
A special small exhibition in the Royal Pavilion of Milan dedicated to the Royal train will be arranged especially on this occasion. The Royal Train, now the train of the Presidency of the Republic, is intimately tied to the history of Milan and Monza Palaces as well as all of Italy, as it incorporates in its internal decorations the coats of arms of the major Italian cities and in the centre of the ceiling the Iron Crown. More specifically, this last emblem, the original of which is preserved in the Cathedral of Monza, is an object of great historical and religious significance which also represented the unity of the Nation. It is depicted in the decorations of the Royal Palace, in many decorations of the Central Station, and the Royal Palace of Monza.
The complete program also aims to enhance an important project, which the Royal Palace of Milan is sharing at a European level: restoring a page of the history of Milan and Europe through the restoration of the Throne Room from the Napoleonic era. Milan is collaborating with other members of the Network, in particular the Palace of Versailles and the Palace of Fontainebleau, and with the Villa Carlotta, summer residence on the Lake Como, for this project. Villa Carlotta shows the Appiani’s frescoes which were originally in the Hall of the Royal Palace of Milan and will be, therefore, the last stage of this ideal journey aimed at enhancing the artistic and common European heritage.
